HELB Hosts Delegates from Malawi and Botswana Students’ Financing Agencies

Higher Education Loans Board once again received high profile guests from the students’ financing agencies in Botswana and Malawi. The four delegates from Malawi and one from Botswana came on a study tour with the Kenyan students’ financier barely three weeks after the HELB hosted two delegates from the Ugandan counterpart. The Higher Education Students’ Loan & Grants Board (HESLGB) from Malawi delegation was led by the Board Chairman, Mr. Geoffrey Gachuku Chipungu while Mr. Morake Sankie Matlhaga represented the Human Resource Development Council from Botswana.

HELB Hosts HESFB Ugandan Delegates

Uganda’s students financier sent two delegates on a four-day benchmarking mission with their Kenyan counterpart last week. Mrs Alison Akankwasa and Hannington Ojambo Midwodi from Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB) visited the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) from 19th
to 22nd July 2016. The officers visited Lending, Recovery and Audit departments where they were taken through the various structures and processes
undertaken by the respective departments.

HELB Hosts Delegates from South Africa & Uganda

The Higher Education Loans Board received yet another set of guests from the South African students’ financing agency who visited their Kenyan counterpart for a study tour from 31st October to 2nd November, 2016. The South African delegates said they were appreciated the strides HELB has made in financing students in Kenya. NSFAS is the South African students financing agencies, commissioned to provide an efficient and sustainable financial aid system for poor yet academically eligible students. The agency currently offers loans and bursaries to students at 26 public higher education institutions and 50 technical, voca-tional and education training (TVET) colleges.

Zambian Delegation tour HELB on a study mission

AAHEFA member countries have now set their eyes on Kenya’s students’ financing agency, Higher Education Loans Board, with a mission of attaining excellence in service delivery as far as students’ funding is concerned. HELB has become a benchmark organization and has been receiving visitors from other African countries, who are yearning to set a foothold in financing needy students in pursuit of higher education. The Board once again received a delegation from Zambia’s Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board Ms Ireen Nayame Chirwa and Mr Mulama Lawrence came to HELB on a study tour from 1st September to 2nd September, 2016. The delegates’ visit coincided with the Board’s press briefing in which HELB was launching an electronic loan management programme.
